Ruger SP101 4.2" 357 Magnum
Yesterday I went to the range with two different .357 Magnum manufactures ammo. Armscor 158-gr FMJ and American Eagle 158-gr JSP, where both groups where shot at an IDPA cardboard target, at a range of just 7 yards. I chose 7 yards because of the distance from bumper to bumper of a pickup in a parking lot. Our local PD uses 3 and 6 yards for certifying officers at.
This first group with the Armscor, pretty much followed what a friend of mine told me about with this ammo. I had purchased this ammo unknowingly, so I was pretty much shooting it, to get my empty casings. I just didn't know how bad the accuracy would be. And this ammo had a very mild recoil, that felt like I was shooting 38 Spl loads. Now this second group, was shot with the ammo I carry with, and I feel even though it was just a 5 round group, it speaks for itself. Recoil was also more stout and like a .357 Magnum should be, which felt great with the Ruger SP101. I loved shooting the Ruger SP101 4.2" so well, I found another SP101 2.25" in .38 Spl +P that I put on layaway for a super buy price of $440 The serial number showed it to have a 1996 production date, but looked like near new condition.

Good report J.B. I'd stick with that Federal ammo, but try some Remington and Winchester too. Those Sp101's are tough and reliable.
Congrats and I'm sure you'll like the 38spl just as much.

Good report J_B and nice shooting. That little SP101 is sure a sweet little revolver. Defense loads in .357 are proven fight stoppers and mild .38's are fun and real a pleasure to shoot. You made a good buy. I've got several semi-autos, but my revolvers have a special place in my heart.

Thanks for the report JB. Looks like it really likes the American Eagle ammo.
