It's been awhile since we discussed this but I was involved in the follow up of a house remodel recently. They installed LED recessed ceiling lights in a dining room and kitchen. They looked great and put out a very nice light in the rooms when first installed, but half of the 30 or so lights that were installed failed in some way or another before the house was done. Some just quit working. Some had dimmer switches that just didn't dim the lights.
They looked really nice, but it seems like they still haven't made them as reliable as they need to be to replace the old incandescent lights we're all used to.

Thanks for the update Panther. I've been replacing as many of the old incandescent bulbs with florescents as I can. A lot of the lights in my house are on dimmers and the bulbs I've bought in the past said not to use them with dimmers. I think I heard that they make some now that will work with dimmer switches, but I haven't checked it out. Guess I'll do a little surfing for the answer.

My experience is that the flourescents don't have any more bulb life than the incandescents and they still have many times the cost. I see zero overall savings and perhaps even cost more. It did make a lot of money for GE, and made enviros happy. I'm coming to a scraw the radical enviros attitude.

My brother put LED lights in the kitchen. I don't like them. They flicker like a candle. Might be the dimmer switch. I will have to try them in other places.
