Good honey
I've discovered two good sources of local honey around here. The family of the guy who owns the local hardware/gun store has bees and puts honey out for sale in the store.
We also had the annual arts and crafts fair in a town near here last week. I found a booth from another local beekeeper. I wound up buying over $20 worth of stuff from her, including a big honey filled honeycomb. She has a Tea room/restaurant in Springfield, Mo that sells all kinds of honey products. I never buy grocery store honey products. Who knows where they're from, or how old. I like buying locally made stuff. I'm heading home soon and looking forward to some tea and honey tonight.

One of the tricks that Commercial Honey producers like Sue Bee uses is cutting their Honey with Cane Molasses. Most local producers take pride in producing Pure Honey and there sure is a difference.

That's quite a store in Springfield, isn't it?

My bees are really starting to build up. I opened the hive to take a look and they already had it sealed between the top brood chamber and lid with honey. Today I set a Deep Super on it so they will have room to get started and maybe won't swarm. Blackberry's should start blooming soon and then Locusts. If we would get a good rain, it would help the nectar flow.

If my wife wasn't so terribly allergic to bee stings I'd be a beekeeper. She's had to use 2 epi-pens this year.
Two of our local beekeepers have passed away this year and none of the family picked up the business. I wish some young folks could get interested in it but It seems to be too slow paced for them as a hobby. It's certainly a benefit to the community though. |

I was looking forward to taking some good honey from mine, but the drought hit us, and I had to leave it for them to survive the winter on. We didn't have any fall flowers or honey this year. Been a bad honey year here.

My sister-in-law claims that eating locally produced honey helps with her allergies. Don't know if that is an old wife's tale, or if it really works. She swears it does.

I don't know if it works for everyone, but it works with some. When I had lots of honey, I sweetened everything with it. I didn't have any problems at all with allergies. Now when I mow my lawns, allergies bothers me a day or two, after mowing. It helps me.
