Jan. 28, 1949 Both the city council and the Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce supported the construction of the Glacier View dam, which would have dammed the North Fork of the Flathead and inundated about 20,000 acres of Glacier National Park. Thank goodness this never happened, and the Hungry Horse Dam was begun on April 21, 1948.
