Default O.a.l.

I received my order of Bayou bullets.
They look nice.
My problem is to get in the crimp groove I have to have a O.A.L. of 1.640.
The old manual I am using says max of 1.610 for 44 Mag.
I have read that if using in a revolver longer is ok as long as the cylinder turns.
But I do know that seating depth affects pressure.
Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated by this old coot.

dowop have you tried the forum at https://www.bayoushooter.com

I thought about buying some 240-gr SWC bullets from them, but will have to factor in the shipping charges compared to what I get local cast bullets off the shelf here for.

I believe if your loads are not maxed out, you're probably safe.

Dowop load one without a crimp and make sure the cylinder will turn with that overall length. If it will, you're good to go. Seating deeper will raise chamber pressure. Loading with the bullet seated out further will reduce chamber pressure in a revolver. That might not hold true in a rifle because the bullet could be against the rifling.

Cylinder turns so I guess I good to go.
Only loaded up 50 just to try.
Going try to get to a range in the next couple of days.

I really enjoy the reading & info on the the forum that J_B gave me the link to.

If I had my own plane I would pick you guys up & we would all fly down to the Bayou`s for some shooting & Cajun food.

Dowop

I'm sure it will work for you, what Rman said is correct about pressure... the spike happens when the bullets get seated deeper. Here is a good link on crimping.

Handgun Cartridge Crimping

And another refresher on How-To Crimping of Revolver Cartridges

After not reloading for many years, I found those links a good refresher for me.

That sounds great dowop. Maybe you could dig up some cans of cash from your back yard and buy one.

Went to the range today & the bullets shot good.
Medium load of 9 grs of unique.
No flattened primers or cracked cases.
They sure do shoot a lot cleaner than lead.
Kinda missed the smoke though(:}
