Question Will this get me started?

http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm...n=11172011RCBS

I know nothing about reloading. Will this get me started or am I kidding myself? 9mm and maybe 45ACP (if I ever get a 45) is what I would reload. I have time and if I could save some money I could shoot more (which = more boolits same money). My nephew reloads but I hate to ask him because he's kinda the guy that has the "best" and everything else is junk. It looks to me that other than dies this will get me started. I'm just thinkin' about it because Franne said she wants more range time and ammo costs plenty. I have read where 9mm costs about $135. per 1000 to reload. That's a pretty big savings to me. What do you guys think?

I'd say that is a very good deal on a complete reloadong outfit, and would be a great way to get started. You cant go wrong with that. Just buy the dies for the calibers your shooting now and you'll be set.

That is like the kit I got. I started cold and I am doing fine. I am sure that you will do fine, Vetter. Don't forget to get reloading books. Alot of information you will find in them.

If you don't load many Calibers that will do the job well. The Turret Press is best if you load lots of different calibers, where you can just change the Turrets, and don't have to re-adjust the dies. My beginners rig was the hand dies and a hammer, and dipper for a powder measure. Loaded many a one in the Kitchen floor, with a block of wood, and hand dies.

It will get you started. I believe the dies will will add another $35. The Lee Pro 1000 9mm is only a bit more and will allow you to reload faster. Progressive presses are a bit harder to learn if you haven't reloaded before. I started on no experience with the Lee Pro. I've stuck with it and reload 9mm, .38/.357, .380, .45ACP and .45Colt. Also, take a look at Midway for prices.

9mm reloading: Powder is ~$20/lb and will be enough for a bunch of rounds. Primers are about $0.03/ea. Bullets, depending on type run from $80 (lead) to $140 (FMJ) per thousand. This makes 9mm reloads somewhere around $0.11-$0.17/round.

The greatest reloading myth is you save money. Any savings will go up in smoke and loud noises. I spend more on shooting because I reload.

The advantages of reloading are that it's a bit cheaper to shoot, you can control the characteristics and you get to give the steely-eyed look and say "I reload." This gives you the feeling of superiority that non-reloaders seem to buy into.

Yep. Quite often they will police it for you and save you all that bending exercise. If not, you get a nice stretching and bending session.

You will spend alot more money on equipment fo reloading. There are alot of must have items that you really don't need. But I have been reloading since last spring and love it. I shoot alot more and always have bullets. The real joy is when you find that magic load like I did. 250 savage load that my brother shot into 5/8's of an inch.

If you, in fact, just stick with 9mm (and possibly .45), that outfit should serve you well. There are nicer tools out there and ones that will make the job easier, but the Lee stuff is hard to beat for the buck. Greener is correct - you will need to buy a set of carbide dies. They should come with a shell holder. The only other thing I can think of to get you started is a good reloading manual. I like Hornady's manual, but any will get you started. Not only will a manual give you loading data, but will also teach you the fundamentals of reloading.
