I gotta admit, Doc, my American Flag is not lighted either. It flys proudly at my farm shop. There isn't a light because I don't like to have the place visible at night. There is no lights around the shop left on when I leave for the night.

After 3 different solar lights giving out I gave up. I have the porch light that I should use but I never remember to turn it on or off. Too cheap to put a real good one up. Few months ago we had about a dozen stolen from around our little hood. The UPS & Fed X packages being ripped off is worse than ever this year everywhere. I had our Fed X guy go thru the carport and gate to put a package in my back yard. They must have been told but I wouldn't go into someones back yard, could get bit or shot! I'll do either! I have a 6" brass bell at the door he could have just rung it. UPS guy blows the horn long enough you gotta peek out the window. Anyway, I do feel kinda bad about not lighting the flag.

Well, nowadays I think it's more important to show the flag & stretch the code a bit.
I usually bring mine in at night or if raining but I'm seeing a whole lot more flags showing (day & night) everywhere. I take that as a good sign.

I finally got a good quality LED security light that covers both driveways, most of the front yard and front of the house and the flag of course lit like a prison yard! On at dusk, off at dawn.
