Have you done anthing to prepare for a Local Natural Disaster?
I try to keep enough Water and Food for a short period of time in case of a disaster. We were without Electricity for 10 days during an ice storm a few years ago. I have Solar and Wind power with a battery bank for emergency utilities.

I make sure I have plenty of firewood, I have a free standing wood burner that I have cooked on many times during storms, also I have hot water in a large covered pot that sits on the stove24 hours a day.

In case of an emergency, my seat cushion can be used as a floatation device. I live on Long Island and the only thing I have to worry about is a tidal wave sinking it.

Generator, some food, water, batteries etc...with Tropical Storms being the most commonplace threat on the Texas Gulf Coast.

I can chicken and keep at least 6 quarts (makes great chicken and noodles with dumplings) plus plenty of canned veggies and other meats. This all gets rotated as we use it Bottled water and I know we all have weapons.

I need to look into getting a generator and some kind of propane heater, perhaps, that could be used indoors.
I keep three weeks' worth of food on hand, perhaps a month's worth. Dried legumes, seaweed, instant milk, canned salmon, prunes, organic sugar, maple syrup, and a couple of grains that I can eat. (Am on a special diet.) Also, a few canned vegetables. Have enough tea and spices for a couple of years. Need to get some canned fruit and applesauce. I have iodine/potassium iodide tablets and could boil the water from the hot water heater for drinking water. I have oil lamps, bees wax candles, and flashlights. I have a couple of sternos. Am looking for a camp stove. My folks use theirs when the power goes out. I also keep enough first aid supplies, and vitamins for at least six months. |
