Default Spotted Eagle's Camp circa 1880

Spotted Eagle's Camp of buffalo-hide lodges, circa Nov. 1880. The L.A. Huffman photo showed Chief Spotted Eagle's village along the Tongue River at Fort Keogh, adjacent to Miles City in eastern Montana. The photo was among the last in American history to show buffalo-hide tepees. Spotted Eagle had commanded about 175 Sans Arc (Itazipsho) Sioux warriors at the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn. (If using a PC, click photo to enlarge/clarify.)

Spotted Eagle and his band of about 600 surrendered in Oct. 1880 to Col. Nelson A. Miles at Fort Keogh. In June 1881, women wailed and children cried as at least 1,480 to perhaps as many as 3,000 Sioux were forcibly placed on five steamboats for transfer from Fort Keogh to Standing Rock Reservation in Dakota Territory.

"Sharps Rifles, Made the west safe for Winchesters"

Billy Dixon used a Sharps .50-90 at the Second Battle of Adobe Walls on June 27, 1874, to make his legendary 1,538-yard shot.

I used to be short, young and good looking. Believe it or not, I'm still short.
