Default Sighting in

Went to the range today to sight in my new scope on my .22 and to test some handloads. The scope is a Swift 4-12x40 AO Premier mounted on my 77/22. Had to buy medium hight rings as my original rings were the low hight. These rings look better because they have stainless screws to match the stainless finish instead of the blued screws on the old rings. The scope just about clears the bolt and rubs a little. The power ring has a rise on it that does get in the way when set on the highest magnification, but I can deal.
The scope itself is pretty decent. I have to get used to the adjustable objective. The first time I've had one. The scope was shooting low right and I brought it left and up until it was where I wanted. I think it ended up well. See photos.
Tested four rounds of .250 Savage handloads to see if they would go boom the right way. First shot was dead center. Loaded three more rounds to see if they would feed from the magazine. These were shot not for groups but for function and still grouped without trying. I will take my brother for propper group testing.
Then I headed to the pistol range and tried my .45 Colt handloads. I am going to send the cylinder out to have the cylinders reamed and wanted to see how the groups were before. The gun shoot low right and groups are more like patterns with lead factory loads. I can get some grouping with my handloaded jacketed rounds and even with the copper plated lead handloads.
I loaded Hornady XTP 250 grain bullets over 8 grains and 8.3 grains of Unique. The Rainier 250 grain copper plated bullets were over 8 grains of Unique. Both of the lighter loads were pleasant while the 8.3 load was a bit stouter.

Vaquero .45 Colt factory ammo

And my Mk II .22 pistol

All pistol shooting was done off hand.

Looks like you had a great day Bozack! A good scope & rifle combination make for a fun time at the range. Let us know know the cylinder reaming comes out.

Good report Bozack! It seems you're off to a good start on the reloading for that .250 Savage and the .22 looks like it's shooting well also.

Well, here it is. I had the chambers reamed our on my Vaquero .45 Colt. All I can say is WOW! Just look at the targets above from before the reaming and now look at the ones after;

250 gr. Hornady XTP over 8gr. Unique.

Bottom group 200 SWC over 9gr Unique and top is the same with 9.3gr.

Cylinders was reamed by http://www.cylindersmith.com/.
