Default Handgun or Pistol Defense Against Bear Attack

Food for thought, when the anti gunners say that handguns don't work against bears, and only advocate bear spray. I personally am not an advocate of 100% effectiveness of bear spray over a firearm, last year alone we saw 8 cases of failure between Montana and Alaska.

Story at the link
Handgun or Pistol Defense Against Bear Attack: 73 cases, 96% Effective

If you're facing a bear, and the wind is blowing your direction... bear spray is useless unless you want to be seasoned with it. I carry it, along with a marine signaling air horn and my handgun a .44 Magnum, which has had a 100% effective rate against bears according to the article.

What ever you carry, be safe out there.

Interesting article. Based on what I read, I'll stick with the .41 or .44 Mags. (Maybe a .357 if the others aren't available.)

Exactly... I'm currently working on a 357 Mag, 200-gr WNGC (Beartooth Bullets) as a "Bear Load" for my GP100 should I use it instead of one of my other .44 Magnums

Sounds like a plan.

Angry

I try to stay away from bear country but it's becoming harder every year. It's a shame but it'll take a school bus stop bear attack to wake the liberal tree huggers up and allow a hunt until the numbers are in control.
