Raising Chickens
I'm going to be tearing apart a couple of sections of dock in the spring and I'm thinking of using the wood to build a small chicken house for 3-4 chickens. They always sell some dual purpose chicks at Rural King around Easter, or I could order a few Speckled Suffolks.
Anybody want to talk me out of it? Never raised chickens before but it seems like a good time to start if I'm ever going to do it. |

You will enjoy it. I bought an incubator, and raise wild turkey, quail, and anything that I can find the eggs for. You can usually find fresh hen and Guinea Eggs to hatch. Go for it.

Let us know when you start getting eggs caneman, we'll all be over for bacon n eggs.
Farm raised chickens and eggs are MUCH better than store bought. But then again, farm raised everything is better than store bought. |

We had several hundred chickens when I was a kid. They have to be the dumbest creatures God ever created. 3 or 4 might not be bad, but they are a real hassle when you have a bunch of them. Used to have to knock on the chicken house door before entering and then wait about 5 minutes for all the dust to settle down before I could go in. Half of the time when I went to gather the eggs, there were setting hens on them and they would try to peck you when you tried to move them off the eggs. Chickens are not my favorite critter, but I do like eating them and their eggs.
