Default Did a little work on the Savage .17 HMR

I found out that my Savage 93r17's stock wasn't free-floating like it is supposed to be, so I sanded out the barrel channel to free things up and torqued it back down in the stock. Maybe it will shoot a little better now. It doesn't do nearly as well as T's, and maybe that will help. I won't re-seal the barrel channel until I see if it made an improvement.

That helps, rman . Another thing is the torque on the action screws.

I plan to play with the torque a little Kansas. I can't torque them down too much because the wood is so soft the screws dig in. Don't know what wood they used for the stock, but it sure ain't walnut.

16 inch pounds seems to be about right for the big screw, and 12" lbs works good for the little one for my Savage 17 HMR.

I think both of mine are the same size. One is behind the bottom metal in the wood and the other is the front screw in the bottom metal just in front of the magazine.

This is what my ugly little mutt looks like.

A little, but truthfully, not a lot. I shot 20 three shot groups at 100 yards. I used Hornady 17 gr Vmax, CCI 17 gr TNT, and Remington .17 gr. The average group size was 1.56". The best was .69" and the worst was 2.38". Most groups ran 1.25" to 1.75". The best single group was shot with the CCI load. The conditions were good, so I can't blame the wind. That isn't terrible, but it sure doesn't shoot like Tristan's.
