Schools to have armed guards.
Sheriff's Dept. Chief Grady Judd in Polk County Fl. said Every school will have an armed, uniformed, well trained SRO, school resource officer. They have hired and are training twice as many as need because of the high dropout rate when they discover the reality of the dangers. They will have the power to make arrests and are receiving the police training involving entering a room with active gunfire and shooting. Sheriff Judd said if they don't have enough hired by the day school open a police officer will be on the job. Many other counties are talking about following Polk County.

That makes sense to me. I'm just not sure that one per school is enough, but it's sure better than none. Our little local high school has electronic locks on the outside doors, a camera at each door and one of the office personnel have to buzz them in after school is in session. Only one outside door is in general use for incoming students, guests, etc. Those cameras could be monitored and managed by an SRO.
