Beretta 950BS .22 short, blow back, tilt barrel. US made, no date. Very small, reasonably quiet & a hoot to shoot.

Fabrique Nationale (Belgium) Browning Model 1910. .32ACP, striker fired, blow back. Three safeties, grip, mag. & external lever. Small, flat, runs good, pretty accurate & another fun shooter.

Colt Police Positive .38 S&W 4" barrel. Internal hammer block safety. Dated about 1920. One of my accumulations form over the years. I shoot it but it's not much fun. I think I've seen this type of Colt in the old gangster movies.

Excuse the blurry snapshots done in a hurry. I'm trying to encourage Cornhusker to come back & make a 'spectacle' of himself posting well photographed old gun photos.

Ben,

Why does the Police Positive get a rating of "not much fun" to shoot?

Is the gun that light? The cartridge is not really that energetic.

Or is the trigger pull really that bad? Most of the old double leaf mansprings were fairly light and smooth.

Inquiring minds want to know.

You're right, of course. I spoke foolishly. It's a Colt. The fit, finish & function are top quality. Even at near a hundred years old it's a precise & rock solid shooter.

What I should have said is that I think it's boring to shoot. It groups well within my limited ability. Because of the light recoil of the 38 short it returns quickly & smoothly.

If it's true what the Gun Control people are saying that a gun is dangerous all by itself I think this thing could do a better job by itself without me ham-handing it.

Ah, so it's really too easy?

They had an answer for that, too, at Colt.

Check out the Fitz specials. Bob off the barrel, don't bother to put a new front sight on, either. Then cut away the trigger guard from the front to where the trigger tip is at rest.

That would ruin a very nice old gun, but would sure take away the "too easy" factor!

Fitz Special

Buckshot:

Thanks for the tip, the Fitz is kind of interesting but I don't think I'll hack up the CPP.

This old Colt is a reliable tool. I'm an accumulator of tools not a collector. I can appreciate, admire the craftsmanship & respect the age of my tools but primary function is my basic interest.

The lovely little CPP goes bang when I want it to, that's pretty much all I ask of it.
