77-44 rifle load
Might go deer hunting this year. I have Ruger 77-44.
Best groups I have gotten is 3 1/2 in @ 100yds.off of a bench. Using Elmer Keith loads of 2400 22 gr.with 240 gr bullet Guy at the the range suggested using a 180 gr bullet with 8gr of Unique. Any suggestions? .

Well I reload, but have never reloaded for a .44 Magnum rifle, just make sure that Keith style SWC is gas checked to prevent leading.

He gave me some Hornady 180 gr XTP. Going to dig out my old manuals & start looking. Thanks for replying J_B.

One of my favorite loads with the 180 gr XTP is 27.5 gr of H110. I shoot it in a Ruger Super Blackhawk. I wouldn't suggest Unique in a rifle length barrel. It's more suited to pistol length barrels. That load is very accurate in my SBH. Your results may vary.

Thanks rman. Problem is I don`t have any H-110.I have used it in the past & liked it.
H-110 beats the 2400 by 2135 fps vs 1773 fps & Unique @ 1679 fps out of a 14 in Thompson Contender. Do have a good supply of Unique & 2400. According to one of my old manuals 12.0 gr of Unique & 21.3 gr of 2400 are good. 1.610 is also recommended AOL which I am already set up for. I will let you know how I do.

Guess I will try 12 gr of Unique.
If that don't work I will go back to the 240gr bullet. Could be that 3 1/2 in group is the best I can do. I have this scope on it..https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1009767480 I am shooting off of a bench with sand bags. I will let somebody else shoot it also & see what happens. I did not expect the rifle to be a tack driver, but thought I use to shoot around a 2in group with it. Maybe I am just getting old & senile(

No dowop, don't think you're old and senile. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to find the best load for a rifle. The 77 series Rugers are not known for tack-driving accuracy because they have a 2 piece bolt. That creates just a bit of slop at lockup and it effects accuracy. Two inch groups would be very good for a bolt action .44 Mag. Even your 3.5" groups aren't that bad and are as good as the average lever gun in .44 Mag. If the groups are consistent, it would get the job done from a 100 yards and in. That should make a perfect scope for your rifle.
