New, old truck
I've been without a truck for quite some time. It's been a real pain only having one vehicle. I've been looking for something cheap to buy and drive. Turns out that's a real trick. I finally ended up buying a little short bed 2000 Chevy S-10. It has 116K miles on it, but seems to have been well cared for. It's a 4 cylinder with an automatic, so it's pretty slow - but then, so am I these days.

My Ranger is a 4 cyl. 5 speed. It's fast enough for me. The only time I ever get in a hurry, is when I'm headed for the Bathroom, anyway.

It should do less damage to your wallet. In my case, the only time I've ever wanted more than 4 cylinders is when I've been in mountains. I can say that goes back to my first 4 cylinder in 1975.
I can see where heavy loads might be the same as mountains but my back won't do heavy loads anyway. |

Didn't you guys grow up with 4 cylinder engines? Model T's were 4 cylinder, if I remember my history lessons.
Sounds like you got yourself a good little truck, rman.

What year is your Ranger? Does it have the 2300 4 cylinder or the 2500 4 cylinder? Mine is a '98 Step side with the 2500 and a 4 speed with OD (that is how they bill it). Mileage is only about 18 - 20 mpg. They built the engine here and I was told by guys that work at the engine plant that the 2300 was no great mileage engine and that it got worse with the switch to the 2500 and the 8 spark plugs. The fiberglass step side bed is nice, it won't rot out like the metal ones do. Buckshot |

Well... believe it or not Kansas, the Model T (and the Model A) were a little before my time. I started out driving 6 cylinder Chevys. Tristan and I took the little truck to Emporia weekend before last and it got 24 on the highway. I filled it up again and it got 22.4 with everyday driving. That's not great, but I can live with it.
