Bear spray on too numerous occasions have been a complete failure, don't believe the hype you hear about it.

By "forego", do you mean the porting, or that you didn't get the gun at all?

Not purchasing it.

Too bad. I was kinda hoping for a range report on that. I've had 2 44mags over the years, a Ruger Blackhawk and a Ruger Blackhawk Bisley. Something about that Bisley grip frame made it much more comfortable to shoot. It made the 44 feel like a 357. I never see them for sale around here anymore though.

I decided that I didn't want such a short barreled .44 Magnum.... I might have kept it going if it were a 4" ported model or even another Taurus Tracker .44 Magnum. But for now, the idea is on hold.

OK, air horn, bear spray, and a 44 Magnum snubby if it gets up close and serious in that order may save your butt. The best "running boots" (not Nike) you can buy to get you to your Can-Am Outlander 1000R 4 wheeler if all else fails. Me, I'll watch them on "Zoo TV".

I put the brakes on for this gun purchase... just too many problems reported by other Taurus owners with Taurus Customer Service.

Never has anyone praised Taurus quality control and especially their terrible customer service. Ever the members of the "Taurus Armed" Forum can't find much favorable to say about the ridiculous turn around times if you send one back to them. Good decision in my mind J_B!
