Default Not a disaster but ....

We had a battle in the yard yesterday. We have a lot of muskrat here at the lake lately and my little Rat Terrier (runt of the litter) went tooth and claw with one and he shook the muskrat so hard he broke it?s back. My pup (now going on 11 years) has always had a hind quarters that didn?t quite work right and in the exertion it appears to the vet he got a pinched nerve in his back end. He?s getting around very gingerly and resting a lot. The muskrat got in some good bites and got him in the nose and mouth but those battle wounds patched up okay.

I finished the muskrat off with a .22 but it wasn?t really needed. The pup had done his job well.

I was proud of the little stinker. That monster got in his yard and he was determined to protect mom and dad to the death.

Glad the Terrier won the Battle. I've had two dogs that didn't with the Coyotes. The two that I have now is smart enough to stay together and not get far enough away from the Camper at night for the Coyotes to get them. The yotes are smart enough to not get into shotgun range of the Camper at night also. Hope your little Terrier's back heals up where it is not crippled.

Wink

My two mutts run along the bank at the lake house and sneak in the lake when they can. It's not loaded with gators or snakes but they are there and I gotta put up a fence to keep the "girls" in the yard. Permits and such have me dreading it. The older dog likes to chew the lily pads and the other just looks for somethin' stinky. I sure love my dogs!

I can imagine about the coyotes. We have a few around here that I've seen infrequently, but the population seems to be contolled pretty good.

I've thought that if I ever get another dog that I might want something a bit larger. I had a Norwegian Elkhound 25 years ago that was a great guard dog, but not an attack dog. Her fur was so heavy it would have been great protection around the throat and body and at 45# she was big enough to inflict some substantial damage. Typically for the breed, she was STRONG.

I had a big black and tan hound that killed several coyotes. He decided he could kill the mail carriers truck and it didn't work. I wish I still had him.

Glad your dog is doing OK Caneman. These little guys really are faithful protectors of their property and family. I like most dogs better than I like most people.
