In my case I'll stick with something with a crook neck. Either a cane for a short reach or a shepherds staff for a long reach. In my case it's a great help if I can use the crook over a low tree limb to help me raise myself up. Around the trunk of a small tree it lets me re-orient my body direction.

That's just me.
