The story behind these...
A few years back a gun shop here in town closed. Ms. Jeane and I bought out the remaining inventory. Mostly ammo of various calibers, military ammo cans and some brass. etc. I was going thru some of the stuff last week and found 2 sandwich bags marked "308 reloads". One bag had 40rds and the other had 38rds. One of the first things my dad taught me when he introduced me to reloading some 63 years ago was to never shoot someone else's reloads. I have always followed that advise.
I pulled all the bullets, some were 190gr HPBT, some were 150gr HPBT and some were 150gr SP. I found 3 different powders, IMR4895, IMR3031 I think, and one I didn't recognize. All the brass was over length, and 3 of the primers had firing pin indentations from light strikes and one case had the neck cracked. There was 3 cases that were reloaded and had not been resized. There was caked powder in most of the cases indicating improper storage. I don't even want to know what would have happened is someone had tried to shoot that stuff. And that's where I am now. Cases resized, trimmed, new primers installed and getting stuffed with new powder. |

Your Dad taught you well. I'm very careful when I reload. I can't vouch for anyone else.

I loaded up a few 9mm's today. It's my least favorite round to load, but my ammo supply is looking bleak. I have plenty of power, bullets, brass and primers to set me up for awhile. I have about 800 90 gr Hornady XTP's. They're not ideal, but if I can find a load that shoots pretty well, they will work. Ordinarily I load them in .380 Auto. I'll never shoot them all up in .380 though. I'm loading a few with 2 different loads with each of 4 different powders. That should keep me busy reloading and testing for awhile. Also have some Sierra 125 gr JHP's and 500 Berry's 115 gr planted round nose bullets.
