My relatives thought my Mother, and 2 of Dad's Brothers, were the best cooks in the world. They all used cast iron. Cast iron is as important to Deer Hunters, and Campers, as their Guns. I'm picking up a 9" cast iron skillet today at wally world.

Sorry to bring up such an old post Calvin. I just noticed it. Sharon just bought a set of 3 cast iron skillets. She always swore that nothing cooks fried chicken as good as a cast iron skillet. I'm happy to report that she is right. She fried up some chicken wings the other night and they were out of this world.

You're right about the outdoor cooking too. My brother-in-law and I did all of our camp cooking in a cast iron skillet when we were elk hunting. Nothing smells better early in the morning as bacon & eggs and fresh coffee. There was a big natural spring where we hunted, and the spring water made the best coffee ever.
