Jan 21, 1864 Chief Justice Sidney Edgerton left Bannack for Washington D. C. to present the case for the creation of a new Territory to be carved from the Idaho Territory. He traveled by horse back to Salt Lake City and then by stagecoach to Omaha Nebraska where he continued by train to the capital. Sewn inside the lining of his heavy great coat was a cache of beautiful gold nuggets to impress members of congress with.

Patsy Cline, one of the most important figures in country music history, first gains national attention with her winning appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts on January 21, 1957. Widely admired for her incredible voice, Cline also stood out for her trailblazing independence as a female star in an era very much dominated by men. As many classic recordings as she left behind, her career was hampered for many years by a terrible recording contract and cut short by her tragic death in an airplane crash en route to Nashville from Kansas City in March 1963.

On this day in 1879, pursuing American soldiers badly beat Cheyenne Chief Dull Knife and his people as they make a desperate bid for freedom. In doing so, the soldiers effectively crushed the so-called Dull Knife Outbreak.

1/23/1968 - North Korea seized the U.S. Navy ship Pueblo, charging it had intruded into the nation's territorial waters on a spying mission. The crew was released 11 months later.

They never returned the ship. It's freshly painted and in a harbor close to Kim's crib.

Default Yea!

Canned beer makes its debut on this day in 1935. In partnership with the American Can Company, the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company delivered 2,000 cans of Krueger's Finest Beer and Krueger's Cream Ale to faithful Krueger drinkers in Richmond, Virginia. Ninety-one percent of the drinkers approved of the canned beer, driving Krueger to give the green light to further production.
