I'm working on 9mm brass right now. I dug out all my Winchester brass and found I have a little over a thousand. I've been running them through my vibrator to get the grime off them. I can only do 200 at a time. I ordered 500 Hornady 124 gr XTP bullets from Graf & Sons. Hopefully they will chamber in Tristan's XD9 without having to seat them deeper than normal like the 125 gr Sierras. They have a different ogive, so hopefully they will work. It looks like I have at least another 1,000 Remington cases, around a 1,000 Blazer Brass cases and probably 200-300 mixed headstamp cases. I should have more, but I didn't pick up a lot of them because factory loads were so cheap at the time.

I loaded up 50 9mm's today using the Hornady 124 gr XTP bullets. Hornady recommends seating them to an overall length of 1.06" I tried that and they chamber nicely in Tristan's XD Mod 2. Now if they just shoot as good as the Sierra 125's did, I'll be happy. I used Winchester cases, CCI 500 primers and 4.9 gr of CFE Pistol powder. The Sierras shoot slightly better with Power Pistol, but they have quite a bit of muzzle flash. That's not a problem in daylight, but would be blinding at night.

By the way greener, that Lee Factory Crimp Die seems to really work well.

Default .380 Auto

Yesterday I dug out the dies and decided to load up a few .380 Auto rounds. I say a few, because that is all I had. I've shot the little SIG P238 quite a bit, but it was all at the indoor range. The owner used to get testy if you policed up brass because he swept it all up and sold it by the pound. I never really considered reloading them because I didn't think I'd shoot it that much. Actually the SIG shoots pretty well and is fun to shoot in spite of it's small size. 380 Auto ammo is more expensive than 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 Auto. I'm not sure why unless it's because there is less demand for it.

I have a set of Lee carbide dies that a guy gave me a few years ago. It's only a 3 die set. All my other dies sets have 4 dies. I like to do the seating and crimping as seperate steps. When you are using a 4 hole turret press, a three die set requires a dry run step on the 4th hole. I loaded 1 box a couple of years ago on a single stage press. I used W231 powder and they funtioned and shot pretty good.

This time I decided to use the turret press. I got the dies set up in a spare turret, adjusted them and found a disc for the Auto Disc measure that would drop the amount of powder I wanted. I found that the process went smoothly on the turret press. I thought they would be a pain because of the short cases, but that wasn't a problem. Anyway, I reloaded another box and I need to get to the range to see how they shoot. I also need to shoot up some of my factory load stash so I have some brass to reload, or just buy some new brass.

Anyway, it was a fun project and kept me out of trouble for a couple of hours.

Default Day

Today i will finish up a tray of 40 .223 Rem. These are for my Service rifle, a Colt Hbar. I just installed a new Elfman trigger and want to get to the range to see how well i can shoot with it. Been too cold for range work outdoors.
The .223s are 69 grain Sierra Match Kings over 24 grains of IMR 4895.
