Shooting Skills
Photo of the 15-yard lane at my shooting club. This range has a metal building open on 3 sides. The front has been lowered to prevent shooting above the berm. Something added when the area became a popular place for half-million dollar houses. The white area is board. The yellow is a 2x6 over a steel beam. The shed roof, white area and yellow board are regularly patched, as are holes in the roof. The board has been nibbled a bit and has a half-dozen .45-sized holes in it. I've never seen anyone shoot the building, but we seem to regularly have fresh holes. Sort of reinforces my habit of keeping one eye on the target and another eye on the shooters. When I leave the range I sort of look like Jack Elam.

Kind of reminds me of when I got my CC permit. We were shooting at about 7 yards at a spot in the center of a regular sheet of copy paper. The targets were held with a string fastened between 2 steel posts drove in the ground. Clothes pins were used to hold the targets to the string. There were 8 targets lined up and shot at the same time. We had to continually stop shooting and put the targets back up, where someone either shot the line in two, or the clothes pins off.

Pretty good shooting when you can hit a string or a clothes pin at will.
Back in the dark ages when I was learning to shoot cannons we had a direct fire class shooting non-explosive projectiles at a moving panel. My crew got cocky and started aiming for the 2x4's that supported the panel. We hit 3 before they figured out we were doing it on purpose. |

Good job, both of you!
So, greener. You look like Jack Elam?

The indoor range where I shoot has target holder shaped like an upside down "T" and the targets are held in place by large binder clips. Almost every time I go to the range, my favorite lane is missing at least one clip or one or both are badly wounded from enemy fire. Once in a while there are private security guards attempting to qualify with their weapons. It's almost fun to watch (from a distance, of course). Binder clips fly, targets fall and rounds make sparks when they hit the concrete floor. I believe the safest place to be when they are shooting is directly in front of them!
