What about the open sights. Are they very good?

The open sights are fiber optic, easy to see, a little touchy to set, but seems to hold zero.

I second Kansas's post about the Centerpoint scope. My Crosman spring gun also came with one and it's held up so far. From what I've read, spring guns are hard on scopes. One wouldn't think recoil would be a problem with an air gun, but apparently it is.

The only reason that I can see is the springers vibrate for awhile after the shot is out of the barrel, causing the scope to screw up.

MAYBE that's it. Heck, what do I know anyway?

The reason that spring piston guns break "normal" scopes is because the recoil force in a springer is reversed. It is a function of the way that the piston moves as opposed to the way the projectile/propellant gases move in a firearm.
In a regular scope the crosshairs, etc. are braced to withstand recoil in one direction but on a springer, it comes from the opposite way.

I think you nailed it Pete! I read that somewhere before, but had forgotten about it.

Update

Got a different scope for the Air Hawk. Range report as soon as I can.

Hope it holds together more than 14 shots.

Teddybear, you need to get a scope that is made to handle the double recoil of the springer. Get a bushnell 3-9 or trophy 4-12 or use a centerpoint. They are made to handle an air gun. I also use the AO scope to clarify at close range. Also try different pellets as the guns are picky on which pellets it may like. Have some that go all over and the next will stack pellets ...one on top of the other.......Thats when I do my part between heart beats

Thanks Chortdraw, I never thought about the pellets being different, but makes sense. The scope I got is a air rifle scope, Red Head brand from Bass Pro. Its alot heavier duty than the one that came with the rifle. If I can remember where I put my camera, I'll post pics. I think I've got C.R.S. disease. You know "can't remember "
