Ways to cut Food Costs !
We buy a lot of our food while it is in season. Fruit and Vegetables are usually cheaper local grown, when they are plentiful locally. We also buy quanity of things that will keep, when it is on sale.

The first thing I did when we moved to Arkansas from Southern California was buy a 25 Cubic Foot Chest Freezer... and a side of beef...
Second thing was to buy a 17" rear tine tiller, and plant a garden... |

I found that if I go on a less eating spree and nothing after 7pm that I save money and get thinner.

I make things mostly from scratch. It costs less. It's healthier, and I have more control over what's in the food.
I buy produce from a neighbor, ca. five miles away, who gardens mostly organically. I get fresh eggs there, too. I make a list before I go to the store, and stick to what's on the list. I write down every penny I spend, and keep a running total of the different categories. |

IMHO The best way to save/cut on food cost is to grow your own if you are able to and then can or freeze it.
We grow most of out own foods and an and freeze anything we are able too. Just this year alone we have grown Potatoes ...i canned quite a few small ones and the rest are stored Sweet potatoes Green beans...canned corn ...we canned this in a couple ways just plain and also pickled and we froze some on and some off the cob for winter variety. carrots...canned these turnips / greens also...canned mustard greens...canned pea's...didn't do well but have plenty from last year canned cabbage...froze some and made sour kraut Green peppers...froze and also made stuffed peppers for winter Jalapeno peppers...canned and also dried some and made seasoning sweet banana peppers...canned onions...stored garlic..stored cucumbers ...made pickles tomatoes...used some for pickles, made tomato juice, canned tomatoes, salsa Beets...i made beet pickles We grew HERBS and dried them, so easy to do We have Apple tree's...we made apple butter this year and also i froze a huge amount of apples for making pies, we made apple sauce and jellies Peach tree...canned peaches and made peach jelly We also pick all the berries we are able to get: Strawberries.....i made jam and froze some Blackberries....made jam and froze some That is a lot of what we have done this year, i also save all my juices from my fruits for more jelly making etc.. WE also can our deer and freeze some of it. We also raise us hogs or buy some.... We had bought 4 big hogs and we slaughter them ourselves. We sold three of them for sausage, loins, ribs etc and the forth hog was pure profit to us. We made all our money back from the four with only selling three. WE make our own sausage and can and freeze our meats. We have chickens for eggs and eating we also have goats, one is a milk goat (i have not milked her yet, but the goal is to milk her and make cheeses and soaps etc) We are blessed with cattle and are able to slaughter one for ourselves as we need to. So you see that is how we cut on food cost here in my home For us it is not hard work because we enjoy it. And i figure if God keeps Blessing us with it we should keep on canning away our Blessings! There are so many frugal ways to save on food cost if folks would just do it. There are free stuff waiting to be canned like fruits and deer, rabbit etc.... |

Eat out and save money...
You can save a lot of money by eating out. Get a regular schedule, Calvin's Monday, Chortdraw Tuesday, Kansas Wednesday, rman Thursday, Teddybear Friday and so on. You get the idea?
