Japanese Beetles
Last year I had these beetles in the garden, but it seems like it was later in the summer when they came around.
Today, I saw a few bugs in the garden, but just a few. I was at the hardware store and saw they had lots of the Japanese beetle traps. Last year it was hard to find any, so i bought a box. I put the trap out about 1 hour ago and the bag is half full already!!! I've got hundreds of bugs swarming all over the trap. At this rate, I'll have to get another trap tomorrow. I don't know where they are all coming from, but there sure is alot of them. The guy at the hardware store told me alot of people are spraying Malathion this year to get rid of them. I may have to do that too. It should go further and last longer then the traps.

Panther, the Grasshoppers are eating mine up. I've had to dust mine with malathion. Had moles and gophers until my castor beans got big, then they all disappeared, but still had some holes about like a silverdollar. Had trouble figuring out what it was, but it was Toads. They are catching the bugs in the garden. I don't know where they came from, but I'm sure glad I've got them.

Toads are very usefull, Calvin. Give em' enough time & they will make your dogs foam at the mouth like they had rabies or something.

Calvin, We have a Arizona toad here that I can send you. They are somewhat poison and animals pretty much leave them alone. They get about the size of the palm of your hand. They are a nuisance here. Had a Javalina sneak into my garden the other night and ate 4 cucumber plants and for some reason he ripped up some strawberry plants but did not eat them? He will be on my hit list if he isn't careful!!!

Chort, sounds like you need a night scope on one of the air rifles.

The beetle trap has caught literally hundreds of bugs, but it hasn't made a dent in the bugs I can find around the yard.
I sprayed the trees and garden with Sevin last night. They were really going after the leaves in my apple tree, I hope this works and gets rid of them.

I don't have any Japanese beetles, but for some reason my basement is infested with little centipedes. I don't know where they came from or how they get in. I've been killing about 4 a day. I guess it's time to get out the home defense spray and spray around the foundation and basement door.
