Default RC Vehicles

Anyone here involved in or have been involved in Radio Control racing? That seems to be the next big thing around here. Tristan bought a short course 2WD electric truck with money he as saved. I was amazed at how sophisticated these things are. Caster, camber, toe-in are adjustable, shocks are oil-dampened and spring rates are adjustable. It has a differential and a transmission with an adjustable slipper clutch. And it goes very fast! This looks like it is going to be a very expensive hobby.

Greener's looking for a new truck! They have gotton pretty sophisticated and expensive as well. They have rock climbers, 4 wheel drive drifters, monster trucks and so on. I understand it's not unusual for some to go 100MPH. I remember the Clint Eastwood movie where the bad guys used an RC car to chase down a car and blow it up!

Like any other form of racing, it takes lots of $$$$$ to get to the top and stay there.
As primary sponsor, you will enjoy many happy hours driving to and from the race track and hobby shop. Kinda like playing with guns only different.

I'm afraid you're right! I said I wouldn't buy one because they were an awfully expensive toy. I didn't buy it either, but his Grandmother bought him one for his birthday. I did chip in for the batteries and battery charger though. (Also very expensive) He has 4 friends just down the road who have them and spend most of their spare time bashing into each other. So far he has broken the steering servo, a rear suspension turnbuckle and the body has a couple of splits. They make models of these trucks that stand up pretty well to the bashing, but are not very good race trucks. His was designed strictly for racing and they do hold up reasonably well to that. I told him I would help him keep it race ready, but I won't pay for damage that happens at his friend's house. He has decided that he is only going to race it and do testing at our house.

One of his friends and his dad race about every week. Tristan took his to the track Saturday and ran in Novice class. He finished 2nd in both his qualifiers, and won the feature. His friend was in the race and is a good driver. I kind of think he let Tristan win, but I'm not sure. Anyway, he's hooked and I guess I am on the hook for Saturday nights.

I've tried to drive the thing, but it's hopeless. It's kind of like watching a monkey procreate with a football.

I've seen a few things that I wouldn't mind un-seeing.
