Default Strange I think

I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox front wheel drive SUV. It is equipped with a little 182 horsepower 4 cylinder engine with a 6 speed automatic transmission. My wife drives a 2013 Chevy Impala with a 300 horsepower V-6 with a 6 speed automatic transmission. They both weigh about the same. My average gas mileage is 23.5 mph. Hers averages 27.5. What the heck is the deal?

My cracked brain theory is that for best mileage you need to match vehicle weight to engine size.

Ben's rule of thumb is one liter of engine for ever one thousand pounds of vehicle weight is the baseline.

rman says. "They both weigh about the same." Yep, but one has a four banger working hard & the other has a six banger moving the freight.

My wife would just say she was a better driver.
