America Manufacturing Must Get Back on Track
One Light Bulb at a Time A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American .. Good idea .. . . one light bulb at a time . . . . Check this out . I can verify this because I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments . They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking .. In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job . So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track . Let's get behind her! My grandson likes Hershey's candy . I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ... now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything .. This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets . I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value . " I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price .. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio . So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here .. So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets . ... . yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price! My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors! (We should have awakened a decade ago .. . .. . . . ) Let's get with the program . . . .. help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U . S . A ..

Sadly, we are going in the wrong direction...
Quote:
Sadly, we are going in the wrong direction. The last American light bulb: GE stops making its iconic bulb in the U.S. GE and its products are part of the American iconography. Its founder was Thomas Edison, one of America's foremost thinkers, inventors, and tinkerers. His invention of the light bulb in 1876 marked the moment of GE's genesis. On September 24, that classic American light bulb was switched off. Changing American preferences and looming government regulation resulted in the shuttering of the only remaining U.S. factory to make 100-watt A-line incandescent bulbs, in Winchester, Virginia. The bulbs are still being made in Monterrey, Mexico. |

I don't buy any GE light bulbs anymore. You can still buy bulbs made in the US and they are cheaper. We should be paying less for the bulbs.....or better yet have the Illegals crossing the border carry the bulbs instead of drugs as this would cut the cost of shipping

Shop Vac....
Needed a shop vac for my wet carpet in the closet the other day. Went to Lowe's and got a "Shop Vac" brand and they are "Made in America"! I was shocked and very pleased.
I had to "edit" and add...I also got another flag at the same time and it too is "Made in the USA". The pole and mounting bracket are "Made in China" but the 3X5 flag itself is completly made in South Carolina. I wonder if Lowe's makes an effort to buy American? Close your eyes and imagine this, two items, both made in the USA on one reciept! Last edited by Vetter; 06-01-2011 at 02:13 PM. |

I'd forgot about them. They are made in America. I have a 3.0 HP one that I've had for about 6 years.

Tervis Tumblers...
"Tervis Tumblers", Made in America. A little pricey but by far the best insulated beverage made. They are also guaranteed for life, no questions asked. I have used their warranty several times. Nothing worse than the ice melting in your favorite adult beverage!

Franne got me one of those little plastic tackle boxes for rubber worms. It's a Plano and "Made IN The USA". She got it at Wally World and had picked a cheaper one up and when she opened it it stunk like toxic waste, it was made in China.
