Default More garden

Well we got the pickup load of horse manure unloaded and mostly spread. I haven't been able to do that for about four years. We did it this year with taking turns on the shovel, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my wife. She has been there by my side for 51 years.

I got the wood for two more raised beds yesterday and she picked up a pickup load of good topsoil. Build boxes today and perhaps Monday and then start unloading the dirt. It sure feels good to be able to do some things even if it's a pittance to the working ability of a few years back. We hope to do a second load of dirt.

Great start to spring so far. Still darned chilly most of the day, but we're getting there.

Good to hear you are progressing with your garden. I think watching something grow, besides my belly, is good therapy. I know it helps me.

Good for you. What will you be growing? I'm thinking about putting out more tomatoes this year. This winter's weather has hit the tomato crop hard. Some restaurants around here are having trouble getting tomatoes for sandwiches.

Sounds like your garden is coming right along Caneman. I understand about not being able to work like you used to. I have some heart problems and lung problems from smoking too many years. Yesterday I tried to scratch up some ground on the south side of my house so I could seed the bare spots. I could only work at for about 5 minutes and then I had to stop. My wife came out to help me and then said, "Don't you have a dethatcher or something to pull behind the mower?" Duh! I got it out, got the ground roughed up and the area seeded in just a few minutes. Wives - what would we do without them?

Added 2 raised beds (4X8) and will be adding one more (Total 4). So far we've added one load of horse manure and 1 1/2 loads of topsoil (Still have 1/2 load in the truck). About 2200 pounds to a load. I'd like to get at least one more load of topsoil this year.

Mixed in some manure where we are going to plant melons. We're late getting peas planted, but it's still three weeks till average last frost here, so we might get lucky.

I'm hoping an added benefit will be to work a few pounds off this year.
