Shotgun Reloading
Do any of you reload shotgun shells? I used to a little back when I was a kid. My Uncle gave me a couple of reloaders & some supplies. I was wondering if reloading shotgun ammo is worth the time & expense anymore.

sg reloading
Worth the time and expense. Hmmm. Depends on your purpose, like anything else. For the most part, I'd say no. I reload all my pistol and rifle ammo but only rarely the SG stuff.
I don't shoot 5K - 10K shells a year; if I did, then I'd reload. For my purposes, upland hunting, the factory ammo is the way to go. (I do have presses in 12 and 20 gauges but they don't get used much.) Of course, it is fun and interesting to do. Pete |

I've never got into Shotgun Reloading because I don't shoot one very much. If I shot one a lot, I'd probably get a press. I only load the Rifle and Pistol ammo that I shoot the most. Have some calibers that I don't shoot much that I buy ammo for. 10 yr. old Grandson wanted to Reload some this weekend and I let him load some .45 acp while I sat and watched over his shoulder. He did a good job.

I traded the shotgun reloading equipment for a Super Blackhawk many years ago. I looked at 12ga. ammo at Wal-Mart over the weekend. BOY! That stuff has gone up in price. It got me to thinkin' about buying a outfit & starting to reload for the shotguns again. We usually spend quite a bit of time shooting clay's out back, but didn't have much time for about the past year for stuff like that. It's fun for me & the GF to have the kids over for a Sunday afternoon to shoot. Her oldest Grandson is starting to shoot a little now, so I guess I had better got stocked up on ammo. Think I'll start looking for a shot shell reloader after Christmas. Any suggestions as far as brand?

"That stuff has gone up in price."
Not just ammo. Before you go and buy a press, check out the price of lead shot. Wow. Last time I was in Gander Mt., the price for a 25# bag was in the middle $40s. Pete |

shot gun reloading
Hi,
Yes shotgun reloading is well worth it, i reload 410 and 12 gauge in both plastic and brass. I use hand tools to reload, but i am making my own press. Try brass from rocky mountain cartridge co in the USA its great, pricey but lasts. cheers chris

Times change
Wow. Times do change. I just read through my own posts from two years ago. I have to laugh. Since then, I have started shooting Trap.
Now I own five presses in 12, 20, .410. and a Littleton Shotmaker. Yeah, I'm shooting enough that it is worth it for me to load my own shells. Pete PS: +1 about RMC brass hulls. Lathe turned beauties, they will last long enough that I can leave them to my grandkids. And they use regular 12 gauge components...something that the less expensive drawn brass hulls don't do. P |

I also reload shotgun shells. In my area, you don't save any money, but I really enjoy reloading.
This brass shotshell reloading thing has me interested. I'm going to check this out. |

re brass shotgun reloading
Hi
Yes its great to reload shotgun shells in brass, i reload 12 gauge and 410 in brass. Try magtech brass or get better quality from rocky mountain cartridge co , in the states, they do hand loaders too, 410 about $45 and 12 gauge $75 for the loaders. While your loading brass, your saving the brass(money). You can buy rcbs cowboy dies for reloading at about $78 or better ones $189 but they are 1 1/4 x 12 tpi unf threads , so they only work on certain presses or make your own press, like i have done.Buy hollow punch to make overshot card and over powder card, take a look at Circle Fly Wads on net in states cheers chris

Building you own press sounds interesting chris. I would like to see that. Got any pictures?
