Default Gardening

In light of the present economy, or for your own enjoyment, how many plan to plant a garden? I haven't planted a garden for years, but in my near future, I can see a garden and root cellar. We used to grow everything we had to eat, and it can still be done. Its possible we will be forced to do it.

I'm sure thinking about it Calvin. Depending on how things go in the next few weeks, it may just be tomatoes, or it might be a little bit of everything.

I grow tomatoes & peppers every year. I like tinkering around in the garden & watching the stuff grow. It's relaxing & rewarding. I may add some corn & potatoes this year.

Gardening, do you have your spade ready? I'm ready to go. My daughter called and told me her husband would be over soon to till my garden. Boy have I heard that story before. By the time he gets here I'll have the plants in the ground. The only problem I have in my old age is when someone is going to do something for me. So what's the problem? They don't do it when I want it done, like now, today!

I know what you mean Tony. These youngsters might have all the time in the world to do something, but at our age, we don't.

I've got tomatoes and onions out, plus some herbs. I'd like to till up some ground and put out some corn but I'm going to have to find a tiller I can borrow first.
As we keep going along in this economy, I keep thinking about stories my mom told me about her days growing up in the Depression. I get the feeling I'm going to have stories to tell my grandkids someday.

Sadly, I think you're right Panther.

Three weeks ago I bought one of those upside down do-johnnies that you plant tomatoes in. I put 2 plants in it and they are already huge and have blooms. I sure hope this works out. What I am afraid of is that if the plants get heavy with tomatoes, they will just pull out of the bottom or break off. My mouth is already watering for some home-grown 'maters!

Sharon and I have recently put out tomatoes, peppers, onions, grapes, and sunflowers for the birds. Planted some castor beans to keep the bugs and varmints away. Also transplanted a pecan sprout from my tree in town, to the Ranch and it looks good. We're getting rain today so it will be good on it.
