Easy new project for pure water

Two + years ago I had my wife in the hospital from a cryptosporidia infection. That darned bug is everywhere - water (Even some municipal) ground - surfaces etc.She was in for 11 days and we darned near lost her. We think she actually got it in a hospital from contamination during a intravenous medicine treatment. Regardless, the bug is everywhere and in her case seems to be more life threatening than many people experience.

With that in mind, and having well water plus a lake home I decided to search out systems which will filter or kill the critter.

I ended up eventualy finding a filter system very reasonably priced from Cheaper than Dirt for only $30 which filters that small a germ. I have to mount it in a set of 5 gallon buckets and I didn't have drill bits big enough so I had to buy those too. If you have a 3/4" bit you can put the whole thing together for under $50. All of the commercial systems I found are much higher. I think the next lowest cost was the Big Berkey at $200 plus.

My CTD filter will give me 12-14 quarts a day as a drip filter which will handle all of our drinking needs. It's a drip filter so we just pour the water in the top and use the spigot out the bottom. No pumping etc. and no electrical connections.

I wish I had one of these even back when we lived in town. Not having to worry about the boil water advisories would have made it worthwhile.

That sounds like something that would be good to have. Our city water here looks like milk coming out of the faucet. We have all kinds of chemicals and crap that goes into the lake that our water comes from. We filter our drinking water.

That sounds like a good, inexpensive water filter system. I believe that I'll look into it.

Caneman, I moved the Thread to (Things that you have tried and would recommend to others) where it won't get lost. To good of information to get lost. Thank you for the tip, Caneman. Here are the filters, and a video on how to install them. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/CAMP352-1.html
