Old mowers do die

Got out yesterday to catch up on the lawn mowing. Got all the trimming done, started the rider up and started mowing and it decided it had mowed it's last blade of grass. Just could'nt find enough pieces of the crank and connecting rod to stuff back in the hole in the side of the block to get it running again. I just could'nt believe it. It's only 17 years old. So the neighbor boy came over with his rider and finished it up for me. Spent the better part of the morning and afternoon buying a new rider. It's about as bad as buying vehicle.

What a bummer. The new riders are expensive, but they sure are nice. Sounds like you got your money's worth out of the old one. What kind did you get?

Gosh Teddy. That's a shame. Something so young to just up and die like that. :icon_rolleyes:

I got another Craftsman, 42 inch cut, twin cylinder. The old one is a Craftsman v-twin and I got good service from it. The first rider I ever owned was a Craftsman v-twin and I got 15 years out of it. Craftsman mowers have always gave me good service, so why not get another one. I did look at John Deere, but their's were $2000 higher for the same horse power, cut width that the Craftsman has.

I should be too old to cut the grass when the new one wears out.

Shoot, you never get too old to cut grass.

Good luck with the new one Teddy. The last two sure were winners. Mine is just Three but does the job. Cut about 1/2 the place yesterday. I had a buddy that was building a dock and was thinking about using plain whitewood. He was about 60 and said it would last about 5 years and he would build another out of pressure treated that would last about 20 years. If he lasted like the PT dock he would be 85 and too old to build another. He had a plan!
